About Us

We are local Democrats who embrace sustainability at a fiscal, environmental, and quality-of-life level.  Our top priorities are:

  • recruiting Democrats to run for local office, and
  • encourage full voter registration among eligible residents,
  • ensuring strong Democratic voter turnout by informing voters about elections, our candidates and the voting process.

We work closely with Dutchess County Board of Elections and the Dutchess County Democratic Committee to meet these goals.

We appreciate your interest in our activities and look forward to welcoming you to a future meeting or event.

Our Town

Interesting factoids about our rural town of Clinton:

  • Population of 4,061 (ACS 2023), spread over 38 square miles. (this does not account for second-home occupants.)
  • Median age is 54 years, compared with ~40 years for New York State and the U.S. populations in general.
  • Registered Clinton voters identify as (11/1/24):
    • 41% progressive (Dem + WF + Other),
    • 31% conservative (GOP + Conservative), and
    • 28% unaffiliated.

From our Chairman

Greetings,

On behalf of the Town of Clinton Democrats we welcome all registered Democrats in our beautiful country community.

First a word about the Clinton Democratic Committee. We are a grassroots organization committed to preserving our way of life in Clinton and dedicated to sustaining our town’s rural appeal and charm. We strive to ensure that the political process reflects our values and principles in all aspects of Town administration. This includes active support for local, county, state and national candidates who reflect our beliefs.

As of November 2024, Democrats in Clinton number 1,296 voters (was 1,143 in Aug 2022). We continue to surpass the combined total of Independence, Conservative, Libertarian, and Republican voters in Clinton. This is due in part to the diligent efforts by our Democratic Committee to register voters in our town.

Despite this progress, we continue working to overcome a longstanding pattern of low voter turnout by Democrats in our Town and across Dutchess County. Every year is an election year and every vote counts. Our Town elections have been decided by a small number of votes. We need your help to prepare for elections and at the polls on election day.  Most importantly, we need your vote in every election.

You may find more information about The Clinton Democratic Committee, and your representatives across our website and follow our activities on our Facebook or Instagram pages at “Town of Clinton Democrats” We also hold meetings at 11 AM on the third Saturday of the month in person at the Masonic Hall on Centre Road and via ZOOM. Join us to meet your neighbors and share your views. You may also sign up to receive our monthly meeting agendas and notification of activities and events organized or supported by our committee.

Please feel free to contact me if I can provide information regarding our community.

Sincerely yours,

Sam Moyer, Chairman

Town of Clinton Democratic Committee

Town of Clinton Democratic Committee

Local Committees are made up of members of the County Democratic Committee (see below) within each town. The Town of Clinton Democratic Committee includes 8 voting members, four from each of our two election districts. These 8 representatives are expected to attend Dutchess County Democratic Committee meetings and events, representing the Democrats within their respective election districts. They have a voice and a vote on party matters at the county level. They select the county committee officers and vote on procedural issues. They also endorse candidates at the town, county, state and national level.

The Chair of our Town Committee is a member of the Executive Committee of the County Committee. He/she works with leadership of the County Committee to make sure that:

  • The county committee positions are filled
  • The polls are run in an orderly fashion on election day
  • That the party’s required poll worker positions are filled
  • That judicial delegate positions are filled

Dutchess County
Democratic Committee

The County Democratic Committee is comprised of members of town committees. They vote within that body

  • to elect the county chair,

  • to endorse candidates for elective offices within the county (including judicial offices), as well as state-wide and national offices and

  • to work with other Democrats to help elect those candidates,

  • to develop and adopt platform policy and to promote that platform/policy to the State Committee.

Candidates for County Committee “petition” to be on the ballot. Because it is a party position, unless one is challenged in a primary, collecting enough signatures is sufficient. If the challenger(s) has also collected enough signatures, there is a primary election and the candidates appear on the ballot in September.

For more information, visit the County Committee’s website at www.dutchessdems.com.

New York State
Democratic Committee

State committee-persons are the Democratic Party’s representatives to the New York State Democratic Committee.

In New York, the Assembly District is the central organizing entity. Each Assembly district within each county has a male and a female State Committee-person. Those Committee-people attend meetings of the NYSDC and the State Democratic convention and vote on party policy and platform issues.  They also make endorsements of candidates for state office.

Similar to the County Committee positions, candidates for State Committee petition to be on the ballot. Because this is a party position, unless one is challenged in a primary, collecting enough signatures is sufficient. If a challenger(s) has also collected enough signatures, then there is a primary election, and the competing candidates appear on the ballot in September.

For more information on this, visit the NYS Democratic Committee’s website at www.nydems.org.
